An Experimental Study on Catecholamine Content in the Uterine and Heart Muscle of Female Rabbit by Reserpine and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Administration

Abstract
Catecholamine has a close relationship to the sympathetic nervous system, hence it has multiple actions to all organ of the body.
During the past 20 years, reserpine has been widely used as a tranquilizer and antihypertensive drug in the obstetrical and gynecological field in spite of the various untoward side effects affecting various organ.
An effort has been made to clarify the effects of reserpine to the catecholamine content in the uterine tissue and heart muscle of mature female rabbit weighing 2 kg on the average.
A group of rabbits conditioned with HCG (501. U. /kg) and another group with reserpine (1.Omg/kg) plus HCG (50 I. U. /kg) were observed during 24 hours following conditioning.
Catecholamine content was determined by Shore and Olin method.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The catecholamine content in the normal uterine tissue was 0.40 pg/gm, while that of the heart muscle 0.69 pg/gm Therefore catecholamine content in the heart muscle was much higher than that in the uterine tissue.
2. In the HCG conditioned group, the ea+xcholamine content in the uterine tissue showed a-decrease (0.13 g/gm). whereas that in the heart muscle, showed a slight increase.
3. In the reserpine plus HCG conditioned aroap, the catecholamine content in the uterine: ¢¥tissue¢¥al wed a-marked deerease(0. 06 dug/gm) and also that in the heart muscle ¢¥a remarkable decreaeel0. 46 pg/¢¥
gm).
4. The catecholamine content in the uterine tissue showed a remarkable decrease in the HCG condi-
I
¢¥ tioned group and that in the reserpine plus HCG conditioned group showed a much more remarkable i decrease.
5. The catecholamine content in the heart muscle showed no significant difference between normal and HCG conditioned group. On the other hand a remarkable decrease in the catecholamine content could be seen in the reserpine plus HCG conditioned group.
6. In the normal rabbits and even in the HCG conditioned group, the catecholamine content in the heart muscle showed much higher than that in the uterine tissue. In the reserpine plus HCG conditioned group, the catecholamine content in the heart showed slightly higher than that in the uterine tissue.
